"As of February 2026, a new feature was added to the Shalazam Map that allows you to define your own sets of markers.\n\nThis system replaces the older \"Drop Pin\" mechanism which only ever stored pins temporarily (in the map URL).\n\nTo summarise, Layers contain multiple Markers; Markers are the things shown on the map.\n\n## Layers\n\nIn [Profile](/profile) you will see a \"My Map Layers\" section. Start here by adding your first layer with the textbox; give it a name that identifies what kind of markers you'll be putting in it. You can rename layers at any time later.\n\nOnce done you'll see a few more form options that let you customize how markers added to this layer will look by default. You can rename the layer, and change the colour, shape, and label assigned by default when you create a marker.\n\n## Markers\n\nTo create markers, go to the [Map](/map)! Once you've created a layer you'll see it in the map controls box on the right, along with the other predefined layers (like Mobs, NPCs, etc). If it's not already checked, turn it on - you can only create markers for visible layers.\n\nThen right click on the map to bring up the context menu; you'll see a \"My Layers\" entry; a sub-menu of this will let you add a marker to all your visible layers at the mouse position.\n\nOnce a marker is created, it is saved immediately and automatically. You should be able to leave/go back to the map and still see it.\n\nMarkers can be dragged around with the mouse to move them; or right-clicked to bring up a context menu to edit the shape, colour, and label for them. You can also delete markers here.\n\nFinally, if you want to create a marker at a specfic loc, use the box in the bottom left (now updated not to drop temporary pins; it adds markers to a persistent layer)\n\n### Marker Levels (advanced behaviour for Dungeons only)\n\nOn Dungeon maps, your markers are assigned to whichever dungeon levels are currently visible. This is not relevant to the world map (Kingsreach) which does not have multiple levels.\n\nSo if you're on Goblin Cave and have only Lower Dungeon Area turned on, and add a marker, it will only be shown when the Lower Dungeon Area level is visible. If you have multiple levels visible, it will be assigned to all visible levels.\n\nIf you make a mistake, either delete the marker and recreate it on the correct level, or, there is a mechanism to fix the levels a marker is shown on. Note on the right-click menu an option \"Re-set Levels\". This will change the marker to be visible on all currently visible levels.\n\nSo assume you made a marker on Lower Area but you want it on Middle Area. The procedure is:\n\n- enable both Lower and Midle Area Levels in the controls box on the right. You need Lower enabled to see the marker, and Middle because that's where you want it.\n- select \"Re-set Levels\". This makes your marker visible on Lower and Middle.\n- hide Lower Area, leaving only Middle Area checked.\n- select \"Re-set Levels\" again. Now your marker is only visible where you want it, on Middle Area.\n\n## Sharing Map Layers\n\nEach Map Layer has a \"Share Code\", you can see it next to each layer in your Profile. This code lets other website users see a read-only version of your layer in their map; they simply paste the code in the \"Shared Map Layers\" section directly underneath in Profile. \n\nThis is WIP, please report any issues.\n\n## TODO - coming soon\n\n* detailed list of markers in a table for bulk editing colours/shapes simultaneously\n* JSON import/export of markers\n\nIf you have any feedback or suggestions please leave a comment or drop into Discord!"
