The Smoke that Sees

Quest Text

The page you brought back speaks to everything the journal mentioned so far. The lava, the ash, the glyphs on the shaft. There’s pattern here hidden in the way they layer. It’s a memory construct. A rite to reveal what cannot be seen with the naked eye. A kind of second sight.

The next page is written in partial glyphs. it’s incomplete.

What I can read names a ritual which the author calls “The Smoke That Sees,” but the passage is… cagey. Ive gone over it half a dozen times. Can’t quite figure it out. “Tools that burn but are not consumed.”

The last line in that passage is a riddle:

“Born in flame, but fed by ash.

Its handle holds the breath of past.

Only where the Dragon’s memory flows

Can its true shape be cast.”

Take what we’ve recovered so far in case you need it. I figure the answer to the riddle refers to a way to read the next passage. If you can solve it, you’ll have more than my thanks.

Hand-in Dialog(beware: possible spoilers)

While it may look like one, this item you’ve crafted isn’t just a torch. It’s a lens. When you light it, the air around certain glyphs shifts. Look at this page! It shows layers that weren’t there before.

I must say, I’m in awe of the journal’s author. He’s found clever ways to not only inform us about the Ashbreathers, but of the secrets that lay within the journal itself.

Give me some time examine the next passage…

And craft an apology. I guess I was wrong about you.
