[ This quest is a perception based quest, so doesn’t follow the standard quest procedure. ]
Listen to their conversation until the end (see below).
A voice whispers, “Larro watches you with sharp, unreadable eyes as you approach…”
You Jacques?
- I am.
- No. Just passing through.
- Who wants to know?
[He glances over both shoulders before stepping in close]
Didn’t think you’d show. That crate? It never made it past the deckhands.
[He jerks his chin in the direction of the Barrowdark]
Saw five of ‘em, no dock tags. Moved like they’d done it before. Slipped the guards, carted it right off the vessel. Quiet as fog.
Dark Traders no doubt about it. Tell your masters they were headed toward the Barrowdark.
[Larro lowers his voice]
You don’t go down that way without a reason.
So the shipment was intercepted, and heading toward the Barrowdark? That’s a place you don’t walk into unless you’ve lost your mind, or you life doesn’t mean much to you.
If the Dark Traders are involved, then Jacques is as good as dead. And the shipment? Lost. Maybe worse. But, hey, if you can get it back I won’t ask how you did it. And I’ll certainly make sure you’re properly compensated.
Initial dialog:
Maxim Adler says, “We were promised it would dock two night ago. No contact. No crew. No crates. Nothing.
Stefano Denton says, “You think I’m not losing sleep? I sent Jacques down to Availia the moment we missed the window.
Maxim Adler says, “You sent Jacques? Alone?
Stefano Denton says, “He knows how to ask quiet questions. If something went wrong, he’ll sniff it out.
Maxim Adler says, “Unless he’s already in the water with the cargo.
[ He circles you once, slow and deliberate]
You’re not one of theirs. Not polished enough for court. Not clever enough to stay clear of holes like this.
You came for the shipment? Fine. But nothing in this world is free. Not in the dark, not in my reach.
You do something for me and maybe I let you leave here with more than just your skin.
But listen well: you have no secrets from me now. No lies. No names. From this moment forward what you know, I know. What you see, I see.
And the only way out? Is death.
[He steps aside. Gestures toward the crate]
Now then… let’s see if you’re worth more alive than buried.
Notes:
- If you haven’t listened to the dialog of Stefano, Larro will say: You’re not a shiphand. Tide’s high with questions tonight. Keep walkin’.)
- Despite saying “A task has been added to your quest journal.” It did not appear for a Level 10, but did for Level 11. - It’s a bug that you can get that far and not get the quest at lower levels.
